As ACA NSW members would recall, the United Voice and the Australian Education Union have both lodged their applications to the Fair Work Commission calling for female staff in all childcare services to be effectively paid the same as male staff in virtually ANY workplace. Interestingly, the unions’ have abandoned their claim over local councils. Moreover, the unions have called for the Federal Government to pay for the difference should they be successful.

Obviously, United Voice’s first hurdle is that they will have to prove that female employees in childcare services are disadvantaged as compared to their male equivalents who perform work of an equal or comparable value.

The Australian Childcare Alliance and our lawyers are all ready to represent members at these hearings which start this coming Wednesday, 19 October 2016 in both Sydney (80 William Street, Sydney) and Melbourne (11 Exhibition Street, Melbourne) simultaneously starting at 9.00 am.
