What is International Fire Fighters Day?

International Firefighters' Day is a day to honor and appreciate the courageous firefighters who risk their lives to save others and protect communities from fires and other emergencies. It's celebrated annually on May 4th to recognize their bravery, sacrifice, and dedication to keeping us safe.

When is International Fire Fighters Day?

Saturday, May 4

Activities:

  • Fire Truck Visit: Arrange for a visit from a local fire department or firefighter to the preschool.
  • Firefighter Dress-Up: Set up a firefighter dress-up station with costumes, hats, and props like toy fire extinguishers and helmets.
  • Fire Safety Storytime: Read books about fire safety and firefighters to the children. After reading, discuss fire safety tips such as "stop, drop, and roll" and the importance of having a fire escape plan.
  • Fire Truck Art: Provide materials for children to create their own fire trucks using paper plates, cardboard boxes, paint, and craft supplies. They can design and decorate their fire trucks with sirens, ladders, and wheels.
  • Thank You Cards for Firefighters: Help the children make thank you cards or drawings for local firefighters to show appreciation for their hard work and bravery. Provide art supplies like crayons, markers, and stickers for children to decorate their cards with messages of gratitude and encouragement. Deliver the cards to a nearby fire station or invite firefighters to visit the preschool to receive them in person.
