What is Diwali?

Diwali is India’s biggest and most important holiday of the year. The festival includes a row of clay lamps that the Indians light outside their homes to symbolise the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness.

Activities: 

  • Rangoli Art: Teach children about the traditional art of Rangoli by creating colourful designs using coloured rice, sand, or flower petals.
  • Diya Painting: Provide small clay diyas (lamps) and paints for children to decorate.
  • Story Time: Read stories to the children related to Diwali, such as the Ramayana
  • Traditional Dress-Up: Invite children to dress up in traditional Indian clothing such as sarees.
  • Dance and Music: Teach children simple dance steps or hand movements to popular Bollywood songs associated with Diwali.
