21 Questions for NSW Treasurer Kean about Universal Affordable Childcare

On 8 March 2022, the NSW Treasurer publicly urged the Federal Government to offer universal affordable childcare or else the NSW Government will.

The problem is there are too many parents who read the word "universal" as meaning free, similar to free Medicare services.

However, it is currently unclear as to what the Hon Matt Kean MP or the NSW Government mean by universal affordable childcare.

Questions naturally arise in terms of, for example:

  • How much is the gap or will childcare be free to parents and families?
  • Will the gap different to different parents/families?
  • Will long daycare services be treated differently to family daycare services and community/mobile preschools?
  • With long daycare and community/mobile preschools having the responisbility of having degree-qualified early childhood teachers, will NSW's universal affordable childcare provide additional funding like that of NSW Start Strong funding?
  • Will increases in regulatory and operational costs be offset by this NSW universal affordable childcare fund?

ACA NSW has submitted 21 questions to NSW Treasurer Kean seeking clarity urgently. And ACA NSW will share his responses as quickly as possible.
