NSW Early Learning Commissioner declines to engage publicly

The NSW Early Learning Commission (NELC) (as the somewhat new NSW Regulatory Authority) has decided to no longer participate at ACA NSW's Inner Circle evenings which are open to both members and non-members.

Citing that such public attendances are "... not in line with [the NELC's] engagement priorities", the Commission's wholesale withdrawal is surprising given its original concern of barriers of entry were overcomed with ACA NSW's offer to host a live webinar on any two Monday evenings of their choosing in the year, with an audience of up to 500 representatives from the sector to attend.

Even before the NELC's establishment in December 2025 as an independent entity that is separate to the NSW Department of Education, the NSW Regulatory Authority (as its predecessor) would attend either with their colleagues from the NSW Department of Education or on their own since Inner Circle evenings began in 2022.

It is true that ACA NSW Inner Circle evenings are known for its robustness and detail in the discussions, insights and exchanges. And ACA NSW believes it is that that the NSW Regulatory Authority attended our Inner Circle evenings.

ACA NSW appreciates the NSW Department of Education for their continuing participation and engagements at our Inner Circle evenings, including the upcoming evening (on 25 May 2026) to discuss the many reforms underway with over 100 ACA NSW members and non-members.

Despite the NELC's decision, ACA NSW has issued the NELC with a standing invitation to participate and engage in any of our public events and activities.
