What is International Day of Women and Girls in Science Day?

International Day of women and girls in Science day promotes equal access to and participation in science for women and girls. The day is implemented by UNESCO and UN-Women aiming to promote women and girls in science. UNESCO are currently prioritising gender equality, as well as the support of young girls, their education and ability to make their voice heard. This day reinforces the notion that women need science, and science need women. With all sources of knowledge and talent, we are able to unlock the full potential of science.

Activities:

  • Learn about the famous women in science 
  • Conduct a science experiment e.g. lava lamp, making a volcano, dry erase, storm in a glass, home made playdough 
  • Discuss different STEM careers they may want to persue when they're older e.g. architect, engineer, computer technicians, science
  • Science experiment: Create a fun and educational science experiment such slime or a volcano
  • Story time: Read books about famous women scientist to the children and discuss their achievements.
  • Science station: Set up hands-on science stations for the children to interact with
