What is National Science Week?

National Science Week celebrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in Australia annually. The week includes science related activities and events, engaging people with science to inspire curiosity and innovation. This week also allows people to explore science, discover how it applies to everyday life, and encourages participate in hands-on experiences.

Activities: 

  • Science experiments: conduct simple and safe science experiments such as the baking soda and vinegar to make a volcano to demonstrate chemical reactions
  • Sink or float experience: fill a tub with water and place different objects in the water. Ask the children to first predict if the object will sink or float, and then test it in the water
  • Science books: read different age-appropriate books that explore science for kids
  • Explore scientific materials and toys
