Federal Ministers Aly & Rishworth committed to eliminating dodgy ECEC operators

The Federal Minister for Early Childhood Education (the Hon Dr Anne Aly MP) and the Federal Minister for Social Services (the Hon Amanda Rishworth MP) have jointly announced that they would work towards strengthening safety and quality by firstly exploring measures that can eliminate dodgy early childhood education and care operators.

Their intentions to strengthen Commonwealth regulatory and enforcement powers are so as to:

  • deal with providers that persistently fail to meet minimum standards and repetitively breach the National Law from opening new Child Care Subsidy approved services;

  • take compliance action against existing providers with egregious and continued breaches, including the option to cut off access to Child Care Subsidy funding where appropriate; and

  • deal with providers that pose an integrity risk.

They will explore plausible measures by firstly consulting the sector and states/territories' regulatory authorities.

And given NSW's unbelievable numbers of breaches for the last 5 consecutive years, as well as the higher National Quality Standards requirements imposed on NSW-based services, as two of many examples, ACA NSW looks forward to considering plausible measures that are reasonable, fair, unbiased and nationally consistent.

To that end, ACA NSW invites its members to submit their input/thoughts/concerns that ACA NSW and all ACA states can present to the two Federal Ministers and governments. Please direct your input/thoughts/concerns to nsw@childcarealliance.org.au.

ACA NSW will also seek members' input/thoughts/concerns via its upcoming Members-Only Meetings, Regional Meetings and Inner Circles.
