NSW's Mandatory Vaccinations for ECEC Workers Extended

On 11 March 2022, the NSW Government renewed its existing NSW Public Health (COVID-19 Vaccination of Education and Care Workers) Order 2022.

This renewed Public Health Order is functionally no different from its predecessor in that it still required all early childhood education and care (ECEC) workers (including volunteers) to have:

  1. had at least 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, or
  2. been issued with a medical contraindication certificate, or
  3. a medical contraindication recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register that prevents the person from receiving any approved COVID-19 vaccine available in New South Wales.

Education and care workers must provide evidence of the above if requested by:

  1. a responsible person (ie from the ECEC service) for the worker, or
  2. a person authorised by the responsible person (ie from the ECEC service).

Even though it is potentially likely to occur, the NSW Government has thus far not announced when COVID-19 vaccine boosters will be mandatory for all ECEC workers and volunteers.
