A major Western Sydney region's childcare services who attended the public workshop on 11 April 2019 virtually said they were concerned about childcare oversupply as well as their declining occupancy levels while Cumberland Council reviews their powers of whether they have any effective ability to regulate where new childcare services should and should not be approved.

This public workshop follows the unanimous decision by Cumberland Council on 19 December 2018 when they realised they do not have full powers to stop new childcare services in areas that are inappropriate.

Moreover, those approved providers, nominated supervisors and centre directors offered suggestions as to how federal, state and local governments could improve to support childcare services.

Cumberland Council will now receive a report for their consideration as to what further actions they will wish to take to address their apparent lack of powers.
