Make sure you and your family are fully protected against Measles

It’s time to visit your doctor to check that you and your family are fully protected against measles, before you travel overseas.

Measles is a serious highly contagious, viral illness that is easily spread through the air.

How do I know if my family and I are fully protected against measles?

In Australia, the measles vaccine (MMR) consists of two doses. If you’re not sure whether you and your family have had two doses, visit your doctor. It’s safe to receive another dose.

People born outside Australia

If you don’t have a written medical record that confirms that you and your family have had two vaccinations or a blood test to confirm immunity, you should talk to a doctor. If you have a Medicare card, you can get the MMR vaccine.

Babies under 12 months old

If you’re travelling with a baby under 12 months old, consult your doctor about getting their measles vaccination. Learn more about childhood vaccination.
