The Fair Work Commission has announced a 3.0% increase to minimum wages starting from 1 July 2019.

What do you need to do? Nothing for now. The Australian Childcare Alliance (ACA) NSW are working on updating the new pay rates for FY2019/2020.

Who does the increase apply to? The 3.0% increase applies to employees that get their pay rates from:

• the national minimum wage
• a modern award.

The national minimum wage applies to employees who are not covered by an award or agreement. For employees covered by an award, award rates will increase by 3.0%. 

The increase may not affect employees who already get paid more than the new minimum wage.

What happens next? The Fair Work Commission will issue draft determinations and orders about how this decision affects modern awards. It will then update the pay rates in each award.

It usually takes the Commission a few weeks to do this. Once they make these changes, ACA NSW will update members with the new FY2019/2020 pay rates.
