As previously reported, the return to the Commonwealth's Child Care Subsidy (CCS) brings with it a gap fee for most families. As such, there may be some families who are experiencing financial difficulties which may mean access to early learning services is no longer affordable, particularly if their employment situation has changed in the COVID-19 climate.

The Federal Department of Education, Skills & Employment (DESE) has produced a new fact sheet about the Additional Child Care Subsidy (CCS) Temporary Financial Hardship and is encouraging eligible families to apply for this as soon as possible.

DESE is also reminding families to make sure they have done their 2018/2019 tax return, to ensure they continue to receive the CCS. The deadline for doing this has now been extended 31 March 2021.
