World Asthma Day

What is World Asthma Day?

World Asthma Day is a special day when people all around the world raise awareness about asthma. Asthma is a health condition that makes it hard for some people to breathe. On this day, people talk about what asthma is, how to manage it, how to prevent it, and how to help those who have it feel better. This day also encourages people to take action and organise events like walks or workshops to raise awareness and support for asthma.

When is World Asthma Day?

Tuesday, May 7

Activities:

  • Breathing Exercises: Teach children simple breathing exercises that can help manage asthma symptoms. Practice deep breathing techniques together, emphasizing slow inhalation through the nose and gentle exhalation through the mouth. You can incorporate fun elements such as blowing bubbles or pretending to blow out candles
  • Storytime: Read stories to children related to asthma and importance of asthma management and awareness.
  • Asthma Awareness Poster Making: Provide children with art supplies such as markers, crayons, and coloured paper. Encourage them to create posters with messages about asthma awareness, prevention, and management. You can suggest incorporating symbols such as lungs, inhalers, and healthy lifestyle habits. Display the posters around the preschool or in community spaces to raise awareness.
  • Lung Anatomy Drawing: Provide children with paper and crayons or markers, and ask them to draw and color a picture of lungs.
