What is World Refugee Day?

World Refugee Day is designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the world. This day celebrates the strength and courage of those who have been forced to flee their home country to escape due to not feeling safe.

Activities:

• Special Guest: Invite a local refugee support organisation or someone from a refugee background to visit the childcare centre and talk to the children about their experiences.
• Art and craft: Explore different flags and encourage the children to attempt to draw/paint the flags.
• Multicultural Music and Dance: Play music from different cultures and invite children to dance and move to the rhythms.
• Discussion and Reflection: Hold a group discussion about what it means to be a refugee and the challenges refugees face when fleeing their homes.
