National Refugee Week

What is National Refugee Week?

This week is a reminder for people to come together and learn about refugees and how to show kindness to them. Refugees have left their homes due to unsafety, such as war, natural disasters etc. This week allows people to learn about the challenges they face, and how we can treat them with kindness to aid feeling welcomed.

When is National Refugee Week?

Activities:

  • Group Time: Discuss and explore the cultures and traditions of different countries that refugees may come from. Educate children on the importance of welcoming newcomers.
  • Story Time: Read books or stories about refugees and their experiences.
  • Kindness Cards: Provide materials for children to create handmade cards with messages of welcome and kindness for refugees.
  • Community Awareness Walk: Organise a short walk around the neighbourhood or local park to raise awareness about refugees.
