NSW Premier's ECE Scholarship (closing 3 May 2024)

In the midst of the severe and continuing labour shortages, assisting our early childhood educators and teachers with scholarships (even for study tours) is one way to help retain them.

The NSW Premier's Early Childhood Education Scholarship is open to degree-qualified early childhood teachers who are currently  teaching in early childhood education and care services in NSW. The scholarship is for study in any aspect of early childhood education.

The successful applicant will undertake a study tour and follow-up activities of up to five weeks internationally or within Australia. Study tour travel is to be completed in one block between 1 January and 30 June 2025, with individual follow-up activities and reporting to be completed within 90 days of study tour completion.

Time may involve formal study (e.g., undertaking a short course at a respected tertiary institution) or may involve a program of visits to sites, schools and institutions to conduct interviews, observe exemplary practices and collect resources for the preparation of teaching materials related to the specific scholarship category.

The successful applicant is expected to share the findings of their completed scholarship project with the Early Childhood Education and Care sector at one sponsor-nominated forum (e.g., ECEC connect). Participation in additional dissemination opportunities (e.g., presentation at conferences), is also strongly encouraged.

A portion of time (up to one week) may be allocated toward follow-up dissemination activities (e.g., experience-sharing, professional learning) within and across NSW, either in-person or virtually.

One scholarship of $15,000 will be offered for travel during 2025.

Applications will close at 11.59 pm on Friday, 3 May 2024.

Please note: This is separate and in addition to the $22m scholarships for NSW's Early Childhood Teachers and the $265m budget for the NSW Government to assist with the recruitment and retention of early childhood education and care educators and teachers. As best as can be determined, the NSW Government's plans for such funds for 2024-2027 have not yet been announced,.
