What is New Years Eve?

New Years Eve is the last day of the year. Many celebrate New Years Eve by hosting a party with food, drinks and dancing as others will go watch a fireworks display in their local community or city.

When is New Years Eve?

Activities:

  • Watching a previous year fireworks display
  • Doing fireworks paintings
  • Having a pretend New Years Eve party where the children get to count down from 10!
  • Make New Years Eve as much fund as you can with lots of free play or even have a water day where children can play with different water activities (asking parents to bring extra clothes in).

What is Boxing Day?

Boxing day is a holiday celebrated annually. Boxing Day is the day after Christmas Day. Boxing Day is a traditionally a day off for servants, and the day when they received a special Christmas box from their masters.

  • Go to the beach
  • Have a picnic
  • Go for a family bike ride

What is Christmas Day?

Christmas Day celebrates the birth of Jesus. This day is celebrated around the world by Christians by gathering at religious venues and gathering with their family and friends celebrating the birth of Jesus. This day is also celebrated by many non-Christians as a day to spend with family and a time of peace, joy, happiness, gatherings and giving one another presents.

When is Christmas Eve?

Activities:

  • Art and Crafts – Children getting creative using a variety of arts and crats materials and making their own Christmas wreath
  • Make a Christmas Card
  • Paper Plate Christmas Masks: Invite children to make Reindeer and Santa Paper Plate Masks as it encourages imaginative play and creativity.
  • Make Christmas dance streamers for the infant children
  • Sensory Christmas Play Table – set out Christmas decorations for the children to touch and set up for sensory play.
  • Decorate your centre to share the Christmas spirit with children artworks and decorations
  • Read Christmas stories
  • Play Christmas carols for the children to sign and dance along to

  • Play Christmas carols for the children to sign and dance along
  • Invite the children to play pin the nose on Rudolph while being blind folded
  • Write a letter to Santa and post it out to the children’s home
  • Read a variety of Christmas stories

MELANIE RANDENIYA - Centre Manager, Being Early Learning, Pymble

What makes this person so amazing/talented as an educator?

Melanie Randeniya is the heart and soul of the Being Early Learning centre in Pymble. She is committed to delivering on her purpose which is to create a powerful future for every child. She leads by example in everything that she does and has built an extraordinary team of educators around her. Melanie has been the Nominated Supervisor for one of our centres since she was 18 years of age - and in 2010 was selected as a finalist as a Rising Star in the industry. Melanie is passionate about providing high-quality early education and care especially given the importance of the first five years of a child's life and during her time working in early childhood education she has also completed a Bachelor of Science (Psychology), and practised as a behaviour therapist before becoming a qualified Diploma level Educator. Melanie is currently also completing her Early Childhood Teaching Degree and Cert IV in training and Assessment.
