June 1 marks the first day of winter in Australia. The weather starts to get colder, and outfits consist of jackets and scarves. During June, Australians also notice rain and cooler temperatures depending on where you are.

Activities:

  • Snowflake Craft: Engage children in a snowflake craft activity where they can create their own unique snowflakes to decorate the childcare centre. Provide materials such as white paper, scissors, glue, and glitter.
  • Winter Freeze Dance: Play a winter them some and encourage the children to dance, when the music stops, everyone freezes like an ice sculpture.
  • Group time: Gather children and have a discussion about the winter season, talk about changes to weather, shorter days and snow.
  • Story time: Read a book to the children that is winter-themed and that explores the winter tradition or winter animals.
  • Global Day of Parents – 01/06/2024
  • Parent breakfast:  Set up a breakfast buffet with a variety of food and drinks and invite parents to join their children for breakfast during drop offs.
  • Art and craft: Encourage children to draw or paint a portrait of their parents.
  • Story time: Read a story to the children that is related to parents
  • Family Handprint Tree: Children trace around their hand and use this to create a family tree. They can either draw or name the fingers as members of their family.
  • Personalised Thank You Card: Encourage children to create a thank you card for their parents, they can decorate it using markers, stickers or coloured pencils.
