What to expect from tonight's Federal Budget?

Tonight at 7.30 pm, the (new) Labor Federal Government will present its first Federal Budget 2022-2023. All associated documents are/will be available via https://budget.gov.au.

Thus far, the Federal Government has already announced their plans to:

  • broaden the range of Child Care Subsidies (CCS) from 20%-85% to 1%-90%;
  • increase the maximum household income limit for CCS eligibility from $356,756 to $529,999;
  • produce 1,469 new early childhood education teachers;
  • produce 180,000 fee-free TAFE and vocational education places (including for early childhood educators); and
  • instigate a 12-month ACCC inquiry beginning January 2023 to investigate the factors that cause rising costs for ECEC services and out-of-pocket costs for families.

ACA NSW welcomes these announcements as they will help ECEC services, families and their children.

It is also hoped that more announcements will be made to offer solutions, for example the immediate need to address the severe labour shortages currently faced by ECEC services and families

In addition to television broadcasts, you can also watch the proceedings via https://www.aph.gov.au/News_and_Events/Watch_Parliament

Tomorrow, ACA NSW will produce a summary of the announcements and how they will impact members, their families and children.
