What is International Day of Education?

International Day of Education, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assesmbly on 24 January, celebrates the role of education for peace and development.Article 16 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights enhances the right to education, calling for free and compulsory elementary education. The Convention on the Rights of the Child, particularly Article 28, further outlines the importance of ensuring education is accessible to all.

Activities:

  • Art work: Children create artworks that represent their love for learning and education.
  • Career day: Have a dress-up day where children can come dressed as their dream profession. They can talk about what they want to be when they grow up.
  • Flag making: Provide materials for children to create flags representing different countries
  • Group time: Have discussions and read books that are relevant to education or where children can share their favourite educational book. Discuss the importance of education and value of diversity.
  • Set up different stations: Create stations dedicated to various subjects like science, math, art, history and more.
