What is World Diabetes Day?

World diabetes day is a global awareness campaign led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) to raise awareness about diabetes, causes, prevention, and management. World Diabetes Day promotes advocacy, education, and efforts to address the escalating diabetes epidemic worldwide.

Activities: 

  • Wear Blue Day: Encourage children and staff to wear blue clothing or accessories to show support for World Diabetes Day.
  • Healthy Snack Challenge: Encourage children to participate in a healthy snack challenge by bringing in nutritious snacks to share with their friends.
  • Exercise and Movement: Organise a fun exercise session or dance party where children can get active and burn off energy.
  • Experiment: Conduct a simple experiment to demonstrate the sugar content in common foods and drinks. Use sugar cubes or measuring spoons to show children how much sugar is hidden in their favourite treats and the importance of moderation.
  • Story Time: Read books about diabetes and healthy living during group time or story time.
