Cleaners & Deep Cleaners as Authorised Workers

The NSW Government has advised the Australian Childcare Alliance (ACA) NSW that cleaners and deep cleaners are "... exempt [as] a worker employed or engaged to provide services that are necessary for ..." education and early childhood education and care.

ACA NSW also received confirmation today (19 July 2021) from the NSW Department of Education of this same interpretation of the NSW Government's published list of Authorised Workers.

In other words, anyone who provides goods and services that underpin early childhood education and care services will also be recognised as Authorised Workers despite the restrictions of movement across the Greater Sydney lockdown region. Other requirements of COVID testing where applicable may still be required.

That being said, ACA NSW has requested the NSW Department of Education to seek clarification about the broadness of this interpretation for the entire length of supply chains to all early childhood education and care services while balancing the need for safety against the COVID-19 virus. To which the Department has agreed to provide any further information/clarification if/when available.

Should you require any further information/clarification, please contact the ACA NSW team on 1300 556 330 or nsw@childcarealliance.org.au.

And for all COVID related information for the early childhood education and care sector, please refer to ACA NSW's COVIDwatch.
