World Humanitarian Day

What is World Humanitarian Day?

World Humanitarian Day honours the humanitarian workers who dedicate their lives to help those affected by crises around the world. It also raises awareness for humanitarian issues and the importance of individuals worldwide coming together to aid those in need.

When is World Humanitarian Day?

Monday, August 19

Activities:

  • Thank You Cards: Encourage children to create thank-you cards for local humanitarian workers, such as firefighters and healthcare workers.
  • Discussion Circle: Hold a discussion circle with the children about what humanitarian is and how they can help others in their own lives.
  • Community Helpers Visit: Invite a local humanitarian worker, such as a firefighter, paramedic, or volunteer, to visit the childcare centre.
  • Acts of Kindness: Encourage children to perform small acts of kindness throughout the day, such as sharing toys, helping a friend, or saying kind words to others. Discuss how these acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone's day.
  • Story Time: Read books about kindness, compassion, and humanitarian efforts.
